According to Tool Box Topics, the ground fault circuit interrupter, which is commonly known simply as the GFCI, is defined as "a fast-acting circuit breaker that senses small imbalances in an electrical circuit caused by the electrical current leaking to the ground. If this imbalance occurs, the GFCI shuts off the electricity within a fraction of a second."
The GFCI can help to prevent electrical shock. The most common type of electrical shock happens as a result of a grounding fault. Unless a GFCI is being used, you risk extreme danger of being an electrical shock victim when the ground fault occurs.
GFCIs are not just for businesses or for outdoor sections, as you must be certain to have the proper equipment in your home as well. Ground shocks can happen in rooms of the house such as bathrooms, kitchens, and other rooms. To protect yourself, you should hire an electrician to come over to your house and make sure all of the proper pieces of equipment and protective gear are in place. Do not try to fool around with a GFCI by yourself as you put yourself in danger of electric shock by doing so.
